Ed Woodward disagrees with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the Manchester United transfer window approach
According to the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t Express), transfer expert Ian McGarry believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ed Woodward are not on the same page regarding transfers at Manchester United.
While the Manchester United boss wants to bring in his targets as soon as possible, Woodward is keen to play the waiting game. He believes waiting until the end will see him land the player at a cheaper price.
“Ed Woodward’s modus operandi to this point has always been ‘let’s do it late because then we might get a better deal.”
United have enjoyed a rather uninspiring transfer window. The Red Devils have only signed Dutch international Donny van de Beek for the senior side.
While the 23-year-old is a solid player, the United squad needs more than just him to go to the next level. With the window set to close on October 5, McGarry believes there is plenty of time for the club to make their moves.
Woodward’s approach will not benefit Solskjaer, with our first match of the season just ten days away.
“I suspect that’s what Solskjaer’s becoming frustrated by, as well as the fact of course that United are due to kick off the new Premier League season and clearly Solskjaer would prefer to have players in sooner rather than later.”
Woodward’s approach is likely to do more harm than good. United made a similar approach to land Bruno Fernandes last January.
While we got our man at the 12th hour, we also ended up paying Sporting Lisbon’s asking price. There was no advantage that was gained by delaying our move.

Bringing in players early will give them the necessary time to acclimatize to the way the team plays. The manager is the one who is responsible for the club’s on-field results and Woodward will do well to listen to Solskjaer.
