Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bring Joshua King back to Manchester United

According to The Athletic, Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bring Joshua King back to Old Trafford.

King joined United as a promising 16-year-old in 2009. He spent four years at the club before eventually moving to Blackburn Rovers in 2013.

The Norwegian striker was a part of United’s reserves that played under current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. King was unable to make the step up and ended up making just two appearances during his time at the club.

The player too is keen on a return and could be available in the region of £15-20million. Currently in the last year of his contract at the relegated Bournemouth, he is keen to return to the Premier League. (h/t Daily Star)

Interest in the player is high, with a number of teams monitoring his situation. But King would favour a return to Old Trafford.

King’s agent has held talks with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, while Newcastle, Aston Villa and Italian side AC Milan were also monitoring his situation.

It is not the first time that the club has been linked to the 28-year-old. United had monitored King during the January window but ultimately brought in Odion Ighalo on loan instead. (h/t Daily Star)

According to the report, the United hierarchy is unsure about backing their manager in signing the Cherries ace.

While a return to Old Trafford will be a dream come true for the player, it may not necessarily be the same for United.

Is King an upgrade over the options we have at the club?
Is King an upgrade over the options we have at the club?

King is at best an average striker and is not an upgrade on any forward we currently have in the first-team ranks. While adding him will boost our depth, the possibility of an increase in quality as a whole is debatable.

If the club is indeed serious about challenging at the top, we can do better than landing King.

Since signing for Bournemouth in 2015, King has gone on to establish himself as a reliable striker. He has scored 50 goals while assisting 17 more in 170 appearances for the Cherries.
