Manchester United prepare to bid for Kalidou Koulibaly
According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano (h/t Daily Star), Manchester United are preparing a fresh bid for Kalidou Koulibaly.
The Napoli star has established himself as one of the best defenders in his position in Italy and European football. A colossus at the back, signing him would improve most defences in world football.
The 29-year-old looks set to bid goodbye to Gli Azzurri after six years of loyal service. During this time, he has made 246 appearances, including 26 in the Champions League. (h/t Transfermarkt)
United will have to contend with competition from arch-rivals Manchester City. One advantage we have over our noisy neighbours is their strained relationship with Napoli.
Ole Gunnar Solskajer is keen to build a side that can challenge for major honours. The Red Devils ended the season on a high as they ultimately finished third while also making it to the semifinals of all the three cup competitions.
Unfortunately, we could not break our trophy drought. United, however, showed enough promise to suggest at a return to the glory days of old.
It was reported earlier that City had made an initial offer of £53million for Koulibaly. It was deemed too less by the Italians who are instead holding out for £71million.
Pep Guardiola’s side are not willing to up their initial offer. This is due to their incredible £623million deal to land Lionel Messi. With hopes of signing the Barcelona legend now dashed, it remains to be seen if they return with an improved bid.
With ace defender Aymeric Laporte now in quarantine, it has been suggested that City could accelerate their efforts to land the Senegalese star.
