Manchester United baulk at Thiago Alcantara wage demands
According to Fredrik A N Flitvedt (h/t Express), Manchester United have already held talks with Thiago Alcantara but have been put off by his wages.
The 29-year-old is coming off an excellent season after leading Bayern Munich to the treble. With just under a year to go on his contract, he is keen to move on this summer.
Arch-rivals Liverpool are currently leading the race for the Spaniard. Currently on international duty, Thiago will look for a move once he returns to Munich.
According to the report, the player has already informed his teammates of his intention to join up with Jurgen Klopp.
The prospect of watching Liverpool add the Spaniard to their ranks is a frightening prospect. Their midfield had lacked a creative presence since the exit of Philippe Coutinho. Adding Thiago will take away a key weakness form their squad.
This does not bode well for us as we look to close the gap at the top. Pre-empting them to signing Thiago would strengthen us while preventing them from adding more quality.
Thiago currently earns £205,000-a-week at Bayern. Meeting the same wage will make him the fourth-highest earner at United. Given the quality he brings in, it is well worth the buck.
Bayern too have come to terms that their midfield star wants out. They have placed an asking price of £29m on Thiago. According to Welt Am Sonntag (h/t Daily Star), Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that the Germans are indeed waiting for an offer.
Whether United meet the player’s demands remains to be seen.
