Four Manchester United players set to be axed as Donny van de Beek deal inches closer

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are ready to offload as many as four players as they edge close to their first signing of the current transfer window.

The Red Devils are on the verge of signing Netherlands internationals Donny van de Beek from Ajax. And in order to make room for the Dutchman, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now ready to sanction sales of players deemed surplus to requirements.

Starting off, two attacking midfielders Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira are set to be shown the exit doors. (h/t Daily Mail)

The duo had been regulars in the starting XI for the majority of Solskjaer’s tenure at the club. However, the arrival of Bruno Fernandes in January, coupled with Mason Greenwood’s emergence hit their game-time hard.

And with Van de Beek close to signing, they will only fall further down the pecking order. And hence, the club is ready to move both the academy products on this summer. (h/t Daily Mail)

It is claimed that Lingard has attracted interest from West Ham United, while Pereira has been linked with Benfica and Valencia.

Apart from the duo, centre-halves Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo will also be shipped off, with Solskjaer also looking to bolster his defensive department. (h/t Daily Star)

Rojo spent the second half of last season out on loan after falling down the pecking order at the club. Jones, on the other hand, was hardly used by Solskjaer, indicating that the Englishman isn’t a part of the manager’s plans.

French star Dayot Upamecano has been touted as a potential target for Manchester United. And in order to bring him in, the club will need to clear out the deadwood from the squad.

It has been a slow window for us to date. Hopefully, things start to pick up now, with the new season almost upon us.
