Manchester United legend Paul Scholes blames Victor Lindelof for Southampton stalemate

According to Premier League Predictions (h/t The Express), Manchester United legend Paul Scholes had laid the blame for yesterday’s draw against Southampton on Victor Lindelof.

A win would have seen United move to the third spot. With just seconds left to play, Michael Obafemi scored to draw the Saints level.

The result saw us claw level on points with Leicester but still remain in fifth spot. Despite the lost opportunity, we are still very much in the race as the season draws to a close.

Scholes was quick to shoulder the blame on Lindelof who was closest to Obafemi.

“I don’t think Lindelof really reads the danger there as he should do as a centre half.”

The former United midfielder believes Lindelof was caught on the wrong side and was bullied by the Southampton star.

“He has to be goal side. He allows himself to get a little bit bullied by the centre forward as he manages gets a foot in.”

We feel the statements are harsh on Lindelof who had a pretty solid game. Hindsight is a good thing to have and things happened too quickly for Lindelof to react.

In fact, the fault must lie with our other players who failed to beat Jan Bednarek to the first ball. One of our best threats in the air, Harry Maguire was nowhere in sight as the Saints star leapt effortlessly to flick the ball to Obafemi.

Better is expected out of the world’s best centre-back, who was found wanting last night.

Solskjaer was disappointed by the result but took it in his stride. The best place for United to respond to the dejection is on the pitch – to have a proper reaction next time out.

With us due to play Crystal Palace next, three points will help erase yesterday’s disappointment.
