Blind Gave It Away, Lingard Struggled In The No 10 Role, And More – Manchester United Player Ratings vs Tottenham

Manchester United Player Ratings vs Tottenham

Van Gaal’s side were thrashed 3-0 by Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, letting down their Champions League hopes for the next season. In a match where the club had to show their best to keep their aim going, with many players showing one of their worst performances of this season. The defeats saw West Ham close the gap to United to just a point.

 Daley Blind

Player Ratings

David De Gea: 6

One cannot blame this guy after all this guy has been doing behind an awful defence. The defenders let him down once again, giving him no chance to perform his duties well.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah: 8

Probably the best player for Manchester United that day. The youngster gave a promising performance and showed off his potential.

Chris Smalling: 6

Being the main defender for United for this season, he lost his composure in the second half when Spurs did their magic within six minutes. He wasn’t blameworthy for any of the goals though.

Dailey Blind: 4

The Dutch player had shown his great potential as a centre defender in recent weeks but gave it all away against Spurs. He seemed lost in the second half, especially when Lamela scored the third for Tottenham.

Marcos Rojo: 3

Rojo continued his run of bad form with a weak defensive display on the left side, getting owned by Kyle Walker. He was lucky to be selected against Spurs, but his selection obviously wasn’t lucky for the team. He was also not able to provide enough support to Martial at the wing. The Argentine defender must be benched for few matches.

Morgan Schneiderlin: 5

Schneiderlin couldn’t get a hold on the game. He showed his defensive resilience against the talented Spurs midfield, making a few good tackles until Tottenham’s blitz in the second-half.

Michael Carrick: 4

Carrick was not able to offer anything neither in defence nor attack. He was very mediocre against his old club being totally ineffective.

Jesse Lingard: 4

Played in the no.10 role, he struggled to create any chances. His usual pace and dribbling outside the box went total waste and had one of his worst days in this season so far. LVG is to be blamed for the awful display by the youngster.

Juan Mata: 4

The Spanish playmaker found it very difficult to keep the ball to himself but linked up well with Fosu-Mensah. But Mata contributed almost nothing in attack. It was confirmed after Sunday’s match that Mata is terrible at the winger position.

Anthony Martial: 7

The better performer in United’s side. The Frenchman did all he could given the limited chances he had. Anthony Martial pushed the team forward to Spurs’ box with penetrating dribbling.

Marcus Rashford: 5

The young saviour of many Van Gaal’s post-match interviews made no impact against Pochettino’s side. He could’ve been given more time but was substituted earlier than expected with Young- who isn’t even a striker.

Substitutes:

Ashley Young: 4

Came on as a striker and didn’t strike, obviously. He did make a couple of good attacks with Martial but as we know, didn’t turn out to be good enough.

Darmian: 4 Booked (for Fosu-Mensah, 68’)

Depay: 4 (for Mata, 76’)
