Manchester United Set To Offer Southampton’s Luke Shaw Huge Contract: Is He Worth It?

It had been thought that Patrice Evra had played his last game at Old Trafford, but with the veteran defender extending his contract, putting Shaw’s move in doubt.

The Express report that Manchester United are going to pursue with their transfer of England left-back Luke Shaw and offer the youngster a £100,000 per-week contract.

Although Evra is being kept for at least another year, many see the Southampton defender as the long-term replacement for the Frenchman at left-back.

Shaw has enjoyed a tremendous season with the Saints, which culminated in him being selected ahead of 107 cap Ashley Cole, for Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad.

Even with United finishing outside any European spots last season, the 18 year-old is believed to be desperate to complete a move to the Theatre of Dreams.

Initially I saw this as a good move for Shaw, despite their current position, United are in transition and could offer him regular football and a bigger stage to perform.

However, with Patrice Evra extending his contract I am unsure as to how Louis van Gaal is going to utilize the two.

Will he have to two battle it out and best player plays? OR Evra will start and Shaw play now and again to ease him into the big move?

OR van Gaal will put faith in the youngster and use Evra as his safety net, although surely the Frenchman would have preferred a move to either of French duo Monaco or Paris Saint Germain.
