Manchester United In The Lead For Former Liverpool Target

After some of his big club targets have rejected moves to Manchester United, Louis van Gaal is having to adjust his transfer plans for the summer.

The Express report that United are now favourites to sign highly sought after Ukrainian winger Yevhen Konoplyanka from Dnipro.

Konoplyanka was originally a target for Tottenham, but then it looked as though he would be playing at Anfield. That was until his deadline day move to Liverpool fell through.

It seems that van Gaal is now looking to bring the winger to Old Trafford, as a host of his top targets rejected moves, including Arjen Robben, Thomas Muller and Mats Hummels.

But Konoplyanka is certainly not a bad option and boasts an impressive record for his club Dnipro, with 28 goals in 136 appearances.

For me he would be an excellent addition to van Gaal’s new look squad, mostly because of his versatility, he can play left, right, through the middle and up front.

Depending on the system van Gaal chooses, either his 4-3-3 or an adapted 4-2-3-1. Konoplyanka would fit in seamlessly and play where needed.

Manchester United will not be able to cut costs when it comes to their bid, because Dnipro have no need to sell their prized asset and are in no desperate search for funds like other clubs around Europe.

It was believed to be the multi-billionaire owner of Dnipro, Ihor Kolomoyski who blocked the player’s exit in January to Liverpool.

United would do well to stay on his good side if negotiations take place.
