A New Era: Five Players That Manchester United MUST Offload This Summer

Louis van Gaal is set to take the Premier League by storm, with his attractive playing style and his authoritarian approach to management, but first his squad needs an overhaul.

With the new manager reportedly being given £150 million to spend this summer, it is clear that the higher-ups at United can see the work needed to get the club back to where it should be.

But as with any squad, when four or five news signings arrive, that means some current players are packing their bags and heading for the exit.

Here are five who should be offloaded this summer:

Luis Nani – He is currently one of the longest serving players left in the squad, having joined from Sporting Lisbon in 2007. Although he has shown glimpses of brilliance he has never been consistent. Nani only made 11 appearances last season and contributed 0 goals and 0 assists.

Ashley Young – Another winger who promised much, but this season Young has struggled to make an impact, falling behind Kagawa and Januzaj. Although he made 20 appearances, he did not fare much better with 2 goals and 1 assist.

Marouane Fellaini – David Moyes’ first signing has not turned out the way he had hoped. Fellaini was a monster at Everton because the system allowed him to play in the no.10 role, which at United he doesn’t. Squawka shows he has only edged his aerial battles with 52%.

Tom Cleverley – Although Cleverley came through the United youth system, he is well off the standard of those who have come before like Scholes and Beckham. Quite simply, he is not at the level required to play midfield for Manchester United.

Anderson – Still a United player, he will return to Old Trafford from his loan spell at Fiorentina for surely his last summer in Manchester. Another signing with potential but never realised it.
