Bayern Munich have already won the Bundesliga and are still unbeaten in the league. They are the reigning champions of Europe and everyone expects them to stroll through us this evening. Even a large majority of United fans. But I think we will win the game – here’s why.
1) Old Trafford crowd
Yes we have lost six league games at Old Trafford this season, and yes we have been lucky to gain even a point in other fixtures. However, tonight is the first big Champions League night we have had at home this season and we know that we have to win if we want to play in the competition again next year.
I think the 75,000+ who will be in attendance have a massive part to play in making things difficult for Bayern.
2) Underdogs
As touched upon, everyone is writing us off. United are often favourites going into big games but tonight we can play our natural game without anyone expecting us to win. It will allow the forward line to attack fluidly and hopefully Bayern will underestimate us.
3) Wayne Rooney
Rooney has 17 goals to his name this season which is a respectable return, and I think he will be the star this evening as he takes on Javi Martinez in the backline. Rooney also has 14 assists this term and will be key to opening up the Bayern defence.
