Manchester United’s pre-season tie against Real Salt Lake ended with a 2-1 win over the American side. The game certainly was not a friendly of any sorts as Antonio Valencia was sent off for a rash challenge on Sebastian Saucedo in the second half, after a long discussion between the referee and Jose Mourinho.
This was our second win from the tour as we had defeated LA Galaxy 5-2 and will take on Manchester City on 20th July.
The Rio Tinto stadium certainly provided a picturesque backdrop of the Wasatch Mountains as United toiled and there will be concerns regarding the injury picked up by Juan Mata, who had to be substituted.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan got us going with the first goal and leveled the score line at 1-1 after Luis Silva had given Real the lead. Romelu Lukaku though got his first goal for us and it proved to be in the winning strike.
Mou sent out a completely different unit in the second half and we co`ntinued with our 4-3-3 formation that was used from the start of the game but couldn’t add to the score line, plus playing with 10 men was always going to affect us.
Hopefully, we can continue our winning run and ensure we come out unscathed from the rest of the games. While this match was a tough one, there were a number of reactions on Twitter regarding the win and especially Lukaku’s first goal for the Red Devils.
Congrats to the Big man on his first ever goal for Manchester United. It’s only going to get better! #GGMU #RedRom pic.twitter.com/4RxwLRBjkt
