Raphaël Varane bids Toni Kroos a footballing farewell via Instagram stories
Raphaël Varane has congratulated Toni Kroos via Instagram after news of his retirement came through earlier in the day.
The 34-year-old announced on his podcast, Einfach mal Luppen, that he would retire from professional football altogether after the upcoming Euros. He later also bid farewell to the sport via Instagram. (Source: Forbes)
Kroos was recently recalled to the Germany setup by Julian Nagelsmann for the home Euros after a few years of international retirement.
Varane, on his way out of Man United after announcing his departure earlier this month, was one of many from the footballing industry who congratulated the midfielder.
Kroos could leave club football on the highest of notes as he gears up to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final next month before meeting up with Germany for the Euros.
Varane and Kroos all-time Real Madrid greats
Both Varane and Kroos were key assets of the Real Madrid side that dominated European football over the last decade.
Regardless of what they do going forward, both of them will go down in history as all-time greats in their respective domains.
Varane may have missed his chance to bid the game adieu while at the top, but Kroos has the greatest opportunity to do so, not just with the Champions League final, but also with Germany at the Euros.
