Manchester United loanee Sofyan Amrabat could be on his way to AC Milan
According to Calciomercato, AC Milan are looking to strengthen their defensive midfield in the summer and have set their sights on Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
The Rossoneri are second in the Serie A this season but are 14 points off runaway leaders and same-city rivals, Inter Milan.
Milan have identified Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana as their prime target but could also explore moves for Spurs’ Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat, who is currently on loan at Man United.
Amrabat arrived at Old Trafford amid a lot of fanfare at the start of the season, having impressed during his time in Florence and for Morocco particularly at the 2022 World Cup. But he has failed to impress the viewers during his first shot at the Premier League and is expected to be sent back when the season concludes next month.
Basel’s Renato Veiga is also on Milan’s shortlist should the aforementioned targets fail to be brought to San Siro.
Amrabat loss not a hit, but Man United need to recruit all the same
It has been evident for a while that Amrabat’s loan move will not be made permanent. It’s a shame, particularly given the performances the Moroccan has shown over the past couple of years.
Maybe at another time, United could have considered giving him a few more years, but given their current predicament, and the fact that Amrabat turns 28 this year, time is not a luxury either side has and both need to move on to their respective next chapters.
United will not bemoan the loss of Sofyan Amrabat, but it would be wise of them to rope in a good-on-the-ball, positionally-sound midfielder ahead of next season all the same.
