Police investigation of Manchester United star Antony could hinder chances for a sale
As reported by The Telegraph (paid subscription), Manchester United star, Antony could become very hard to sell due to an ongoing police investigation. The Red Devils paid £85m to acquire the Brazilian back in 2022.
However, their investment has not worked out as Antony has failed to have much of an impact. In 73 appearances for the team, he has recorded only nine goals and four assists. When you spend that much money on a forward you expect better numbers.
While Man United hasn’t been actively shopping the Brazilian, he could quickly be sold if Erik ten Hag is fired from the club. The Dutchman endorses Antony and has faith in him to do better.
However, Ten Hag needs to do better himself if he wants to save the Brazilian. If the Red Devils choose to sell Antony they might not be able to break even. He is currently being investigated for assault charges in Brazil.
Antony and his lawyers say that there is no case to be made here and he should be cleared of all charges. However, until that comes to be Manchester United will be having an extremely difficult time trying to sell him.
Fans will be hoping that the team doesn’t have to sell Antony at all. There was something truly special about the player during his time at Ajax. If he can find his former self, he can guarantee his future at United.
