Newcastle asking for a crazy fee is a stumbling block for Ashworth’s United dreams
Dan Ashworth has been subject to lot of speculation recently with Manchester United eyeing him for the technical director role. It is said that he informed his decision to Newcastle United on Sunday and since, the Magpies have placed him on gardening leave.
Newcastle would love to keep Ashworth. He has done a phenomenal job at the St. James Park since he joined in 2022 from Brighton & Hove Albion. But at the moment his stay at the Tyneside looks more complicated with Manchester United coming into the picture.
The Red Devils & the big check fight with Newcastle United for Ashworth
Initially it was expected that Newcastle United would ask a fee worth £10 million for the 52-year-old’s services, but the fee should inflate should the Reds from Manchester would want to start employing his services next calendar year.
Dan Ashworth already has a contract at St. James Park that runs till 2026, and it would prevent him from moving if no compensation is settled with Newcastle.
Newcastle United are asking a sum worth £20 million. This is according to the Guardian.
The officials at Old Trafford are said to be patient about the whole situation as internally Dan Ashworth is considered a long-term appointment. The Red Devils don’t want to be pressured by the Toons into paying a substantial sum for his services.
No dialogue between both the clubs
Manchester United still haven’t made any formal approaches to Newcastle United to secure Dan Ashworth’s services. There is an anticipation that both clubs should be speaking soon with Dan officially on gardening leave.
It is said that Dan Ashworth wanted to relocate to the Red side of Manchester for a while although he delayed speaking about this with his current employers till he had received reasonable assurances that the high compensation fee and the extended gardening leave would not deter his move to Manchester United.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s partial takeover of the club is seeing them undergo major changes in a hierarchical level, something that the club has needed for a while now. Ashworth is a part of the change and let’s hope we reach some kind of formula with the Magpies for the same.
