Former Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has his verdict on his failed transfer move to West Ham
According to Fabrizio Romano’s latest tweet on X, former Manchester United captain Harry Maguire acknowledges West Ham by saying that they “are a massive club”.
After struggling to get regular starts last season and losing his captaincy under Erik ten Hag, the England veteran was widely anticipated to leave Old Trafford during the summer transfer window. Bruno Fernandes was given the armband in his place.
Under Erik ten Hag, Maguire has been forced to accept a less significant role and has participated in just four of their team’s 11 games thus far. He has even had to contend with veteran Jonny Evans for a spot on the bench.
Maguire could have chosen to throw in the towel and go to West Ham where he would have undoubtedly received more game time. It shows how much determination he has though just by the fact that he chose to fight it out here.
Harry Maguire hadn’t seen much action for United until his crucial substitution during the second half of the intense 3-1 loss to Arsenal just before the last International Break. He stepped in for the injured Lisandro Martinez.
Yet, Harry Maguire’s potential move to West Ham could have boosted his confidence due to the promised playing time, unlike at United. Maguire’s assist against Brentford showcased his brilliance, even after the West Ham deal fell through.
Due to the unavailability of players like Luke Shaw, Sergio Reguilon, and Tyrell Malacia, Ten Hag had no choice but to field Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans despite being his fourth and fifth-choice centre-back options this season.

While Maguire might consider a move for more regular playing time next year, his lack of game time at the club level hasn’t cost him his place in the international team. We anticipate a boost in his confidence, and we hope to see him contribute effectively, just like he did against Brentford, for the remainder of the season.
