The 32-year-old is currently a free agent despite the interest from several clubs including the one from Saudi Pro League. The Guardian reported that De Gea is contemplating retirement if there is no interest from any top clubs from Europe.

The Spaniard’s primary motivator is not money but the desire to compete at the top level under a big club.

Legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson signed De Gea to succeed Edwin van der Sar, who is another legend for United. The Spaniard became a big fan favourite for his loyalty and consistent performances during the club’s struggling years.

De Gea left United after achieving the Premier League, FA Cup, Europa League, and two League Cup successes. The 32-year-old won many personal allocates during his long tenure with the Red Devils.

He won the Premier League Golden Glove in two different seasons for United. Moreover, De Gea earned selection to the PFA Team of the Year five times.

De Gea won the Red Devils’ Sir Busby Player of the Year award for three consecutive years. The Spaniard won the award on four different occasions.

The Spaniard broke Peter Schmeichel’s record for the most clean sheets in United’s history last season in February.

The Guardian reported that De Gea expressed disappointment in the way he departed from the club. It seems that the Spaniard has opted to take the role of a United fan (h/t Manchester Evening News) while he contemplates his future.
