Former Manchester United forward Louis Saha has slammed the performances of “overpriced” Mason Mount.

Former Manchester United forward Louis Saha has criticized the performances of Mason Mount so far this season. The Frenchman said that Casemiro has done more offensively than Mount despite having a deeper role in the United’s system.

The Englishman sustained an injury early in the season in a 2-0 loss against Tottenham Hotspur. The 24-year-old returned to action in a 0-1 loss against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have suffered a horrible start, losing six out of the 11 games in all competitions this season. United suffered from an injury crisis at the start of the season but lack of creativity from midfield was equally evident.

Saha talked about Mount’s sub-par performances (h/t Manchester Evening News) He said:

“I think Mason Mount can be a lot better, but I’d say the fee was too much. Based on what we’ve seen, Mason Mount isn’t performing and I’ve seen Casemiro play more offensively than Mount! That’s a crazy thing to say, but it’s true.”

United signed Mount from Chelsea for an initial £55m that could rise to £60m depending on add-ons agreed. United manager Erik ten Hag brought in Mount as a priority midfield signing as he fit the profile required.

The 24-year-old has spent 18 years of his life at the London club by climbing up the ladder from the Chelsea academy.

The England international played 195 games for Chelsea while contributing to 33 goals and 37 assists. United have deployed Mount in a deeper role in contrast to his attacking roles during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Ten Hag wanted Mount to add energy and creativity into the deep midfield, a combination of which was sorely lacking. The Dutchman trusts Mount’s ability and it is too early to judge him, especially with the injury setback he suffered. However, the 24-year-old needs to start producing performances for United as the club’s struggle for form continues. Additionally, Scott McTominay’s heroism against Brentford and the promising rise of Hannibal Mejbri have staked their claim for more game-time and Mount needs to step up.
