Former Manchester United players Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes have heaped praise on Rasmus Hojlund

Former Manchester United players Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes, while speaking to TNT Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News) believe that Rasmus Hojlund has all the right attributes to be successful at Manchester United.

Hojlund opened his scoresheet for United in the loss against FC Bayern Munich in the opening fixture of the UEFA Champions League.

Although the Danish international could not help United to mount a comeback against Bayern, he did show glimpses of the huge potential that he has to offer.

Ferdinand believes that he has all the right attributes that a manager wants in a young player and could turn out to be a successful acquisition for the club.

“He has got attributes that if you’re a coach or a manager, you are looking at him and going, ‘You know what, I would love to work with those attributes’. He has got great physique, he’s quick, he’s aggressive, he’s strong and from what I hear, he wants to learn.

He has all the things that you would want. He can run from the halfway line and shrug defenders off.”

Scholes added the fact that although his goalscoring record is not great at the moment, he would be playing in a better team and has the capacity to score more goals for United.

“It is going to take a little bit of time, we are going to have to be patient. His goalscoring record, at this moment in time, isn’t great, but he is now coming to a big club with a better team and better players. That may improve. I hope it does.”

It is true that Hojlund is not the finished product yet and United fans would have to be patient with the 20-year-old and should not expect to hit the ground running, although he has looked impressive in the three games that he has featured in so far.

He provides a different dimension to the team, something which has been lacking for quite some time and therefore even the team members would require some time to get used to playing with the striker.

There is no doubt that the potential for the player is huge and if settled well, he could very well lead the line for United for years to come.

United, on the other hand, do need the player to perform from the get-go considering the poor start we have had to the season.

The hopes of a title race are already in the bin while there are so many teams that look better than us physically and technically.

The next fixture in the Premier League which would be away to Burnley provides the perfect opportunity for the players to show a response after three consecutive defeats.

We cannot allow another loss in the league and a loss would definitely mount pressure on Erik Ten Hag, who has come under scrutiny and criticism recently and rightly so.

Hopefully, Hojlund’s goal against Bayern becomes the catalyst for a successful career at Old Trafford and the next game against Burnley provides him with the perfect opportunity to open his account in the league.
