Fichajes reported that Manchester United will try to sell 26-year-old midfielder Scott McTominay to raise funds for the club.

West Ham United targeted McTominay this summer to replace Declan Rice before settling for Edson Álvarez. Mirror reported that the Red Devils set a £40m valuation for the player when the inquiry was made.

The 26-year-old has featured in 213 games for the Red Devils, contributing 19 goals and five assists so far.

United added Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat to upgrade their midfield this summer, casting more doubt over the Scottish international’s future at Old Trafford.

McTominay last started the game against Brighton & Hove Albion at home where he was criticized for his performance. The Red Devils lost the game 1-3 at Old Trafford after getting thoroughly outplayed by the Brighton side.

United had a nightmare start to the season, losing four out of six games so far in all competitions. The English giant is currently lying in the 13th position in the Premier League.

The English giants have spent over £170m this summer but they are expected to be active during the January transfer window.

United resorted to loan deals during the deadline day due to the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules restricting their spending.

The Red Devils would need to raise funds by selling players who are surplus to their requirement if they wish to sign players they need. There are many vulnerable areas within the team that need to be addressed so that the club can get out of the predicament they’re in.

More Manchester United News-

We think that any good deal for McTominay will be mutually beneficial for the club and the player. The Scottish international is out of form and performing well below the quality that competition like Amrabat & Mount possess. McTominay has reached the peak year of his career where he needs to play regular football to showcase his abilities.
