Manchester United legend Paul Scholes compares Rasmus Hojlund with Ruud van Nistelrooy
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes compared Rasmus Hojlund with Ruud van Nistelrooy while talking to TNT Sports (h/t Daily Mail). Hojlund’s finishing technique impressed the former United midfielder to draw the comparison with one of the best finishers, Van Nistelrooy.
The 20-year-old scored two goals for the Red Devils in the 2-3 loss against Galatasaray during the UEFA Champions League matchday two game at Old Trafford.
United have started the season poorly with six losses from 10 games in all competitions. The Danish international has been one of the stand-out performers for the English giant during this turbulent time.
Scholes spoke to TNT Sports (h/t Daily Mail) to highlight Hojlund’s performance as one of the positives for United. He said:
“Hojlund, especially, took his two goals brilliantly. I absolutely loved his second goal, in particular. He gave the centre-half no chance with a clean pair of heels. He also had another goal disallowed and I thought: ‘Wow, there’s a bit of [Ruud] van Nistelrooy in there.’ He really excited me.”
The Red Devils signed Hojlund from Serie A club Atalanta in a £72m deal during the summer transfer window. The promising 20-year-old has immense potential and capability to make an instant impact despite being a long-term project.
Hojlund has scored three goals in seven games for the Red Devils while impressing the United fans in each performance. The Danish international has shown incredible pace, work-rate, and intelligence to exploit space with his movements.
Hojlund’s technical ability and composure rightfully drew comparison with United legend Van Nistelrooy. The former Dutch international played 219 games for the Red Devils and contributed to 150 goals and 30 assists.
Van Nistelrooy’s clinical technique and composure in front of goal made him a formidable threat with worldwide recognition.
