Villarreal reject Manchester United proposal for Alfonso Pedraza
Manchester United have expressed interest in Villarreal full-back Alfonso Pedraza in the ongoing transfer window, according to Spanish outlet Marca via Fichajes.com.
The Red Devils were looking to acquire the 27-year-old’s services this summer. To that end, the Old Trafford side proposed a loan deal to the Yellow Submarines for the Spaniard.
However, Quique Setien’s team had no intention of accepting United’s offer. The defender is key to the Castellon-based club’s team.
As things stand, the Red Devils also have their eyes on Marc Cucurella. It will be interesting to see whether the Old Trafford side will be able to sign the former Brighton & Hove Albion star from Premier League rivals Chelsea.
Pedraza is an academy product at Villarreal. The defender spent the initial years away from the La Liga outfit on loan at the likes of Lugo, Leeds United and Deportivo Alaves.
Subsequently, the Spaniard has been a key player for the Yellow Submarines since then. The left-back was inspirational for Setien’s team against Barcelona in their last match in the league, providing two assists. However, they ended up losing 4-3 to the Blaugrana.
At United, Luke Shaw, who has been Erik ten Hag’s first choice at the club since last season, is on the sidelines. The English national has been key to the Dutch manager’s plans since his arrival in the Red Devils’ dugout.
Apart from the former Southampton star, Tyrell Malacia is also out with an injury. Therefore, the gaffer had to rely on Diogo Dalot to play as a left-back in our previous fixture against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
