Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes bites back at his critics

According to The Mirror, Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has hit back at his critics on social media following a recent flurry of critics panning him for his behaviour.

The Portuguese international took over as the skipper from Harry Maguire earlier this summer following the latter’s fall from grace. As one of our best players, it made sense at the time to entrust Fernandes with the armband.

However, the 28-year-old’s start to life as a skipper has gotten off to a rocky start. A fortuitous opening day win over Wolverhampton Wanderers was followed by the 3-1 dismantling against Tottenham Hotspur in north London.

Fernandes’s body language usually defies his words especially when things on the field aren’t going his way. He did not take well to the performances around him and cut a frustrated figure. This saw him draw much flak from pundit Micah Richards.

The former Manchester City star ripped into Fernandes’s body language and even added that the 28-year-old’s behaviour on the field at times borders on ‘pathetic’. Clearly, Richards is no fan of Fernandes as a captain.

The Manchester United ace has never quite taken well to criticism and this time it is no different. He took to Instagram and posted a cryptic message that more or less gives away what he feels about his detractors.

Fernandes posted a clip of former Super Bowl winner Deion Sanders sharing a defiant message about not caring what others think of him. Well, shots fired indeed. Sanders is heard saying in the video:

“Look at me. What about me would make you think that I care about your opinion of me? Your opinion of me is not the opinion that I have of myself. You ain’t make me, so you can’t break me. You didn’t build me, so you can’t kill me.”

Fernandes has the right to respond to his detractors but will also need to have a look at himself. His body language is a major issue when the team struggles and as the skipper, he should provide the solution and not be part of the problem.

Giving heated interviews and making social media posts is one thing. It will count for little unless his actions on the field are befitting that of a leader. After all the attitude of the players around him reflect the leadership.
