Danny Murphy believes that Manchester United’s new signing Mason Mount is a special talent who has all the tools to succeed at Old Trafford
Former Premier League footballer Danny Murphy, while speaking to DailyMai believes that Manchester United’s new signing Mason Mount is a special player and the Chelsea fans who were happy to see him leave will change their opinion very quickly.
Mount was the club’s first summer signing with Erik Ten Hag keen to land the talented midfielder after it was accepted by Chelsea that the player will not accept a new deal.
With one year remaining on his contract, Chelsea had no option but to sell him to the highest bidder, which was United, as the player was also keen on moving to Old Trafford.
There were some sections of Chelsea fans who were happy to see him go while there were some fans from United as well who did not appreciate the signing to a big extent. Murphy says that Mount is a very talented kid and people will quickly change their opinions on him once he settles into the United team.
“It’s amazing how many people have already written him off. I speak to lots of people in football and they all have the same opinion: Mason Mount is a super player who has had one bad season – and that came in Chelsea’s most traumatic campaign in years.
United fans will not realise what a player they have untul they see him in action. He was player of the year for two seasons in a row at Chelsea in a team full of superstars. Every manager at the club played him. Those Chelsea fans who were happy to see him go and the United fans who were non-plussed by his arrival will be changing their opinion very quickly.”
Mount, 24, has the prime years of his career ahead of him while he has been a regular Premier League for the last 3-4 years having notched up a total of 129 league appearances to date.
It should also be remembered that top teams like Arsenal and Liverpool were also keen on signing him but the player was adamant on a move to United, which speaks volumes on the level of commitment that he has already shown to the club.
Mount has already shown in the pre-season friendlies that he is an upgrade on Christian Eriksen, while he definitely improves the team from last season.
He is a proper team player and someone who will contribute a lot to help us achieve our objectives for this season and one miss in a pre-season friendly does not call for reactionary behaviour from the fanbase.
It is important, as supporters of the club, to stick by the new signings and give them ample time to integrate into their new team.
There is no doubt that the trajectory on which Ten Hag is looking to take our club is positive and there are improvements in the profiles that we are attracting now as compared to the past seasons.

Mount is a big example of it and it would not be wrong to say that once he is fully settled into the squad, we would get to see his best version which would probably change the opinions of many who questioned his signing.
