Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag dropped Marcus Rashford to the bench for the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers for being late by a few seconds.

The Red Devils took on the Molineux Stadium side on 31 December, 2022, away from home. However, the England international, who was our talisman at the time, did not start the game due to a disciplinary issue.

Speaking on The Overlap on Youtube (h/t Mirror), Rashford revealed that he was just a little late to one of the team meetings before the match against the West Midlands-based club. The 25-year-old approved of the gaffer’s actions.

“I wasn’t even that late – he wasn’t being harsh – late is late, but it was probably about 45 seconds, a minute late. I already knew what was going to happen because of the rules he implemented in pre-season. Rules are rules and we’ve got a game to win.”

It ended up being a tight fixture against a well-drilled opposition. In the first half, United had a few chances but were unable to take them.

Subsequently, Rashford was subbed in at half-time and replaced Alejandro Garnacho. The English national ended up being the game-changer as he found the back of the net in the 76th minute to hand us a narrow 1-0 victory.

It was surprising to see the forward dropped, considering his performances for the Three Lions in the 2022 World Cup. The Red Devils’ academy graduate had three goals to his name as Gareth Southgate’s team made it to the quarter-finals in Qatar.

However, it showcased that Ten Hag has no exceptions when it comes to the rules. The Dutch manager has managed to turn things around a great extent since his arrival in Manchester last summer.

In the 2022/23 term, the Old Trafford side ended up winning the Carabao Cup and finished third in the league table. The gaffer also managed to get the best out of most players.
