Kobbie Mainoo on crutches after injury in Manchester United vs Real Madrid friendly
Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo was seen on crutches after suffering an injury in the pre-season friendly against Real Madrid in Houston.
The Red Devils took on Los Blancos on 27 July at the NRG Stadium in Texas. Unfortunately, the Old Trafford side were on the losing end as the match ended 2-0 in favour of the Spanish giants.
Mainoo started the game alongside Casemiro in the middle of the park. Regrettably, a couple of minutes into the game, the 18-year-old was forced off the field and was replaced by Christian Eriksen.
Subsequently, courtesy of ESPN’s Rob Dawson on Twitter, the English national was seen wearing a protective boot. Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News after the fixture, Erik ten Hag asked for time to evaluate the extent of the injury.
“I understand the question but you can never tell straight after a game. We have to wait for what it is. Hopefully he is not too bad and chances will come.”
Mainoo has featured in every friendly fixture Man United’s senior side have played this summer. The youngster started in our wins over Leeds United, Olympique Lyon and Arsenal.
The English national has put in some decent performances and has caught the eyes of a lot of people. Sadly, the 18-year-old was unable to showcase his talent against a tough opposition like Madrid.
Carlos Ancelotti’s team took the lead in the opening minutes of the game through Jude Bellingham. Then, towards the end of the fixture, Joselu doubled the La Liga outfit’s lead.
Mainoo has made his way through the youth ranks at the Old Trafford side. Ten Hag was the one who gave the youngster a break at the Red Devils last season.

The midfielder made his debut for Man United in January 2023 against Charlton Athletic in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. We ended up winning 3-0 as the 18-year-old played for about an hour.
Hopefully, Mainoo’s fitness issue will be a minor one and he will be able to return to action in no time.
