Manchester United to step back from the Rasmus Hojlund deal if Atalanta reject their maximum offer
As per the Telegraph (subscription required) (h/t Metro), Manchester United will step away from the Rasmus Hojlund deal if Atalanta reject their maximum offer of £60m.
A few days ago, it was revealed that Atalanta are adamant about demanding £86m for the Danish striker. United think that the price is too much for the player.
Due to the Financial Fair Play regulations, the Red Devils can only spend £120m in this summer window. They have spent the majority of that in signing Andre Onana and Mason Mount.
The club would hope to raise something around £40m by selling Dean Henderson and Amad Diallo. That would open up the budget to £60m to sign Hojlund.
If that isn’t enough to prise the striker away from Atalanta, Erik ten Hag would start to look at the alternatives. One of them is Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani.
It seems as if United and ten Hag are operating with one hand tied behind the back in this transfer window.
That is not a healthy situation to be in when trying to address big positions in the team such as the goalkeeper and the centre-forward.
While the former is done with Onana’s arrival, the latter is still a gaping hole. United cannot rely on the likes of Anthony Martial to lead the line and score crucial goals.
Ten Hag had to be creative in the pre-season games so far by trying different players as a false nine. Jadon Sancho was tried there against Arsenal and the Englishman did a decent job.
