Manchester United inform young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo he will be a first-team player here
As per the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have informed young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo that he will be a part of the first-team squad.
Mainoo is considered one of the bright talents in the United Academy. He will be kept around the senior squad instead of being sent out on loan.
The 18-year-old has played both the pre-season games for United thus far. He made his senior debut last season in a Carabao Cup game against Charlton Athletic.
There were interest from League One club in the midfielder in January. However, the Red Devils rejected any move.
Mainoo has been part of the Academy since the summer of 2021. He is a central midfielder who can play as an attacking or defensive midfielder.
It would be interesting to see where and how Erik ten Hag uses him next season. One would assume that the youngster would play a few games in domestic cup competitions for starters.
We know that ten Hag is one of the best coaches of young players. He has done that job very well at Ajax.
If the Dutchman is confident about Mainoo’s talents, which it seems like he is, the latter can profit a lot by staying here and playing fewer minutes for a start rather than going elsewhere.
With United once again in four competitions in a season, one can expect a fair bit of rotation from the manager as the season progresses.
Players like Mainoo would get limited game time but that is where he has to show his worth and slowly knock on the door for a regular start.
