Donny van de Beek leaves Manchester United exit door open this summer
Manchester United star Donny van de Beek has left the door open regarding his potential exit from the club in the ongoing transfer window.
The Holland international featured for us against Olympique Lyon on Wednesday (19 July) in Scotland in our second pre-season friendly. At half-time, he was substituted in and scored the lone goal of the match to hand us a 1-0 victory.
However, all has not been rosy for the former Ajax Amsterdam midfielder since his move to the Old Trafford side. At the Red Devils, the 26-year-old has been unable to live up to expectations.
Initially, after Van de Beek’s €40 million plus add-ons move to United in the summer of 2020, he was a bit-part player under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Subsequently, in January 2022, the Holland national joined Everton on loan but got injured soon after.
Unfortunately, fitness issues have plagued the midfielder’s development over the years. Last January as well, the 26-year-old ended up picking up a knock and missed the rest of the 2022/23 term.
Speaking to the media via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Van de Beek admitted that he was uncertain about the future. The Holland national admits that an exit from the club is on the table.
“This was a big moment for me. There’s still a chance I move, but we’re keeping it open.”
With the arrival of Erik ten Hag to United’s dugout last summer, it felt like the midfielder had a chance to redeem himself. The 26-year-old developed and thrived under the Dutch manager at Ajax.
Unfortunately, the gaffer was unable to bring the best out of Van de Beek last season. He made just 10 appearances in all competitions and did not score a goal or provide an assist.
