Dutch outfit FC Twente has set their sights on talented 21-year-old winger Facundo Pellistri
According to Voetbal International (h/t the Manchester Evening News), Dutch club Twente Enschede FC have expressed interest in securing a loan move for Manchester United starlet Facundo Pellistri this summer.
The club has already inquired about the availability of the 12-time capped Uruguay international.
Pellistri is not expected to have consistent opportunities in United’s first team next season, which makes it logical for the 21-year-old winger to seek regular playing time elsewhere.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently stated that the Red Devils are negotiating a new contract with the right-winger, but there are chances that he can still opt for a loan move to pursue more regular game time.
Pellistri was regarded highly across Europe during the time he signed for United, with a promising future ahead of him. To unlock his potential, it would be beneficial for the youngster to secure regular playing time at another club.
A departure for Pellistri would be advantageous for all parties involved given the Red Devils’ depth in wide positions. While joining Twente would represent a downward move for the winger in terms of club stature, he may find the prospect of regular playing time exciting.
A potential loan move to Twente may be appealing, particularly considering Erik ten Hag and Steve McClaren’s connections to the Eredivisie club.
The Dutch boss enjoyed a successful playing career at Twente before transitioning into coaching, working under McClaren in Enschede.
Twente’s technical director, Jan Streuer, is aware of Pellistri’s availability and the fact that other teams are also interested.
The Dutch club have recently lost a key player in Vaclav Cerny, who joined German side Wolfsburg in a permanent move this summer. The 25-year-old right winger was a regular player for the club, and his departure leaves room for new signings.
Twente have only one right-winger in their squad. Daan Rots is the only available player in that position. The club may need additional firepower as the current wingers lack experience.
Pellistri may get the chance to feature regularly and compete with Rots for the starting spot.
The Uruguayan star’s previous experience and the tag of being a ‘United player’ will certainly give him an upper hand in landing a spot in the playing XI. He can be a versatile addition, as he can play both as a winger and an attacking midfielder.
Given his young age, Pellistri has ample room for growth, and consistent game time could enable him to further develop and realise his potential.
Man United may consider sending Pellistri out on loan with the aim of him returning as an improved player next season. Ten Hag is open to providing opportunities to young players in the first team, but only if they show their true worth.
His philosophy follows the belief that age does not matter as long as the player is talented enough. The emergence of Alejandro Garnacho serves as an example of this approach.
Pellistri primarily prefers playing as a right-winger. However, Antony is currently the first-choice player for that position, with Jadon Sancho and Amad Diallo also competing for opportunities.
The youngster can draw inspiration from Diallo’s loan spell at Sunderland last season and use his loan experience to prove his capabilities as an impact player for United.
