FC Barcelona are willing to offload Sergino Dest for a minimal fee with Manchester United previously interested in the player
According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Manchester Evening News), FC Barcelona are willing to offload Sergino Dest for a minimal fee with Manchester United said to be interested in the player.
Dest was previously one of Erik Ten Hag’s main targets when he looked to move Aaron Wan Bissaka on after the right-back failed to impress him.
However due credit should be given to Wan Bissaka, who showed improvement in his game and was actually preferred over Diogo Dalot in the latter stages of the season.
His resurgence and Dalot’s continued growth have allowed United to put the plans for a new fullback on hold with more urgent positions in need of care first.
Dest’s current situation at Barcelona might test Ten Hag’s resolve, who was keen on bringing the USMNT International to Old Trafford.
Now he could be available for a minimal fee of €17million which could attract the likes of many clubs looking to sign a fullback.
Ten Hag knows the qualities of Dest, both of them having spent time together at Ajax. His move to Barcelona and subsequently the loan move to AC Milan did not work in his favour and he may be looking to resurrect his career with a new move.
Fulham and Crystal Palace have also shown interest in the player and it remains to be seen whether the club will go for the player after being in deep negotiations for Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund with Inter Milan and Atalanta respectfully.
While right-back is not a priority for United at the moment, things could change if Ten Hag feels that one of the two full-backs in Dalot and Wan-Bissaka needs to be moved on.
