Erik ten Hag keen on selling Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Jadon Sancho

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is keen on parting ways with Harry Maguire and Jadon Sancho this summer, according to the Independent.

Apart from the two English nationals, the Dutch manager also wants to move on from Fred and Scott McTominay in the ongoing transfer window. In the next two weeks, the gaffer hopes to have a trimmed squad.

Ten Hag has decided on the players he wants to have at the Old Trafford side. To that end, the Dutch manager understands that some of the members who are not guaranteed game time should be sold to have a more focused group.

As a result, Maguire is one of those on the departure list. The England international has lost his place in the team since the former Ajax head coach’s arrival in the Manchester-based club’s dugout.

United signed the 30-year-old from Leicester City in the summer of 2019. He was an essential member of the starting lineup prior to Ten Hag taking the reins.

Now, Maguire has fallen down in the pecking order. The English national is behind Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in the Dutch manager’s consideration. The gaffer also relied more on Victor Lindelof as the backup last season.

As for Sancho, he has underwhelmed at the Old Trafford side since his move from Borussia Dortmund. The 23-year-old has failed to live up to the expectations at the Red Devils.

The English national’s debut season at United lacked impact. Unfortunately, the forward was unable to do much in Ten Hag’s first year in charge, either.

While strength in depth will evidently be key for us going into the 2023/24 campaign, a bloated squad is not ideal. Certain departures will also help the Old Trafford side gather additional funds for more incomings. But whether the Red Devils will be able to offload the likes of Maguire and Sancho remains to be seen.
