Erik ten Hag eyeing a second forward at Manchester United amidst talks with Rasmus Hojlund
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wants to sign an additional forward amidst talks with Atalanta for Rasmus Hojlund, according to the Manchester Evening News.
John Murtough, the Red Devils’ football director, has been in talks with La Dea to acquire the services of the Denmark international. However, the gaffer wants to bolster the attack further with a versatile player capable of playing in various positions up front.
As things stand, the futures of a number of the Old Trafford side’s players are up in the air. The club are willing to part ways with Anthony Elanga for £10 million in the ongoing transfer window.
Also, United are open to the sale of Anthony Martial. The French national was unavailable for most of the previous campaign. The former Ajax head coach was unable to rely on the 27-year-old due to his fitness issues.
Ten Hag has also grown frustrated with Jadon Sancho. The former Borussia Dortmund star has failed to live up to expectations at the Old Trafford side. Last season, the gaffer tried to give the 23-year-old chances in various positions, but the forward was inconsistent.
Facundo Pellistri is expected to leave the Red Devils on loan this summer as well. The Uruguay international has showcased immense potential. However, the Dutch manager did not trust the youngster with a lot of minutes in his first year in charge.
Ten Hag has to count on Marcus Rashford to shoulder the burden of the attack in the 2022/23 term. The 25-year-old was the only player who found the back of the net on a consistent basis in the previous campaign.
United signed Wout Weghorst in January on loan from Burnley to add more depth up front last season. Unfortunately, the Holland international did not make much of an impact at the club.

Therefore, we could do with more firepower in the attack. Hojlund is still inexperienced and counting on him to solve our issues in the forward line does not seem wise. But it remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford side will have enough funds to bolster the attack further.
