Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella prefers Manchester United transfer
Nicolo Barella, who plays for Inter Milan, prefers a move to Manchester United in the ongoing transfer window, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are the Italy international’s ‘ideal destination’. As things stand, the Old Trafford side are interested in the midfielder and have held phone calls for him.
However, the Nerazzurri are expected to demand around €80 million plus add-ons for the 26-year-old. On the other hand, Newcastle United have already made an approach for him recently.
Inter got a hold of Barella in the summer of 2019. Since then, the Italian has been a key player for the Serie A giants. However, the Nerazzurri could be forced to sell some key players due to their financial problems.
Over the years, the midfielder has gone from strength to strength and has developed into a world-class star. He was a key member of Roberto Mancini’s team that won Euro 2020.
The 26-year-old has continued to shine under Simone Inzaghi at Inter. The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza side made it to the Champions League final in the 2022/23 campaign only to lose 1-0 to Manchester City.
United’s engine room saw the addition of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last summer. While both were key to Erik ten Hag’s plans last season, the Danish national was a bit underwhelming towards the end.
Also, on the bench, the gaffer had the likes of Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek to call upon. They have been inconsistent during their time in Manchester. On the other hand, while Marcel Sabitzer was an inspiring addition to the team, he was only signed on loan from Bayern Munich in January.

Barella has the quality to get into the starting lineup of many top teams. At the moment, the Red Devils evidently could do with someone like him in the squad. But whether the Old Trafford side will take concrete steps to acquire the Italian’s services remains to be seen.
