Arsenal submit £30 million bid for Manchester United target and Ajax Amsterdam defender Jurrien Timber
Premier League rivals Arsenal have submitted a £30 million bid to Ajax Amsterdam for Manchester United target Jurrien Timber, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (h/t Express).
The Gunners are targeting the addition of the Holland international to their squad in the ongoing transfer window. As things stand, the defender is at the top of the North London side’s wishlist.
However, the Eredivisie outfit want more than what Mikel Arteta’s team have offered. But the 22-year-old is keen on making the switch.

Last summer, the Red Devils were interested in acquiring the services of Timber. However, he opted to stay in the Netherlands. This time around, the centre-back is once again on the Old Trafford side’s radar.
The Holland international developed under Erik ten Hag at Ajax. Over the years, the 22-year-old has established himself as one of the most promising defenders in Europe.
Arsenal relied heavily on William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes last season. They were on course to get their hands on the league title. But the French centre-back’s injury derailed the North London side’s campaign and Manchester City pipped them.

On the other hand, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane were the preferred pairing at United. The two formed a formidable partnership at the Old Trafford side.
When the World Cup-winning Argentine was sidelined in the business end of the campaign, Victor Lindelof stepped up to the plate and put in some impressive displays.

While we have enough depth at the back, it would not be a surprise to see some of our defenders leave this summer due to a lack of game time. In that case, will the Manchester-based club opt to challenge Arsenal, who have made the first move in the race for Timber? Only time will tell.
