Marcus Rashford is all set to sign a bumper new deal with Manchester United
As revealed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford is close to agreeing to a new long-term contract with the club amid previous uncertainty regarding his future.
The journalist has stated that the negotiations are entering the final stages and that just the minor details need to be sorted out. The 25-year-old is set to accept the proposal, as he is happy to continue playing at the top level under Erik ten Hag.
The United fans will be thrilled to hear this latest development, as Rashford has been a key player for the Red Devils since making his debut for the club in February 2016.
Last season, he was in his best shape as he scored 30 goals and provided eight assists across all competitions for the Red Devils.
He rightly won the 2022-23 Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award and Man United’s Players’ Player of the Year award for his successful season at Old Trafford.
In spite of claiming all these accolades, there was a sense of fear that the club might face some hurdles in securing the player’s contract. The English star had just 12 months left on his present deal, and a significant contract upgrade was needed.
United are currently experiencing an unusual phase in the transfer market as financial constraints are hampering their typical straightforward approach. However, the club remains determined to secure deals for their preferred targets and continue strengthening their squad.
The Red Devils are still pursuing a potential transfer for Mason Mount. Additionally, as stated by SkySports, they have a strong desire to acquire a high-quality striker before the start of the new season.
Alongside these transfer concerns, there are also ongoing discussions regarding contract renewals for key players within the team. The club is facing crucial contract negotiations with David De Gea and Rashford, both of which are seen as priorities by Ten Hag.
The former has yet to reach an agreement on a new contract, with the club offering a reported £200,000 per week, a significant decrease from his current salary of £375,000 per week.
According to the Daily Mail, Man United are unwilling to increase their offer, leaving the decision in the hands of the Spanish goalkeeper.
On the other hand, the club acted swiftly to present Rashford with a new contract worth the same amount as De Gea’s current salary, totalling £375,000 per week.
If both players accept the proposed deals, it would result in a salary swap, with De Gea earning what Rashford currently makes.
According to the Sun, the 25-year-old forward is close to becoming the club’s highest-earning player once he signs the new lucrative contract.
This would also put an end to the speculation linking him with a move to Paris Saint-Germain since the English star has insisted that he is happy to stay at the club.
Man United need to provide support for Rashford upfront
Even after the club is close to agreeing on terms with the player, United would be careful not to push the goal-scoring burden on Rashford next season.
It is safe to say that Ten Hag needs a striker who can form an excellent partnership with the academy graduate and share the goal-scoring responsibilities upfront.
A striker like Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane or Napoli’s Victor Osimhen would be an ideal fit for the club.
However, the manager is yet to get a clear picture regarding the ongoing takeover saga and the funds made available to him. In case of any change of events, the club needs to be prepared with their transfer strategies, as it is a must to sign a new forward this summer.
Meanwhile, on a personal level, Rashford has experienced a remarkable season that exceeded all expectations.
Following a disappointing 2021/22 campaign, during which he struggled with just five goals in 32 appearances, the forward faced the difficult task of stepping up his performance.
Under the leadership of Ten Hag, the player had to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure in December and Anthony Martial’s injury-induced absence.
However, every challenge presents an opportunity, and the 25-year-old seized his chance to become United’s talisman and shoulder the goal-scoring responsibilities for the team.
