Bayern Munich join Manchester United in Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund race
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have joined Manchester United in the race for Atalanta star Rasmus Hojlund, according to BILD (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The German outfit have placed the striker on their shortlist for the ongoing transfer window. However, signing a new number nine is a priority for the Red Devils this summer. To that end, the Denmark international is being eyed by the Old Trafford side.
Erik ten Hag has already held conversations with the 20-year-old. But United will have to battle the Allianz Arena side for the youngster, who view him as a cheap alternative with a lot of potential.
La Dea signed Hojlund in the summer of 2022 from Sturm Graz. In his debut season at the Bergamo-based club, the Denmark international established himself in Gian Piero Gasperini’s plans.
The 20-year-old has showcased his prolificity for his national side. He found the back of the net once again against Slovenia in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, taking the youngster’s tally to six goals in six caps.
At Bayern, they have been unable to replace Robert Lewandowski since his move to Barcelona last summer. The Bavarians had to rely on Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting a lot in the 2022/23 campaign.
On the other hand, United also look short in the striking department. Anthony Martial has been injury prone for some time now. As cover, we signed Wout Weghorst on loan in January.
The Burnley loanee featured a lot last season due to the French national’s fitness issues. While the 30-year-old worked hard, he was not up to the mark in front of goal.

Therefore, we evidently need to bolster the number nine position this summer. However, Hojlund is still young and has a lot to learn. Will the Old Trafford side count on him to solve the problems in the attack? Only time will tell.
