Kim Min-jae rejects Napoli contract offer amidst Manchester United links
Napoli defender Kim Min-jae has rejected a contract renewal offer from the Partenopei amidst links to Manchester United, according to 90min (h/t Express).
The Red Devils are interested in acquiring the South Korean international’s services in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the Old Trafford side want to make the centre-back their first summer signing.
As things stand, the 26-year-old has a £52 million release clause in his existing deal with the Serie A giants, which United are looking to trigger. The Italian outfit tried to remove it by proposing fresh terms. But the Naples-based club’s efforts have failed.
Napoli signed Min-jae last summer from Fenerbahce. The Partenopei want the defender to stay for another year. However, it looks like they will be unable to convince the South Korean.
Apart from the Old Trafford side, Paris Saint-Germain also have the centre-back on their radar. Fortunately, the 26-year-old prefers a switch to the Manchester-based club.
Min-jae showcased his talent in Italy during the 2022/23 campaign. The South Korean was a pivotal part of Luciano Spalletti’s plans as the Naples-based club lifted the Serie A title for the first time in over three decades.
At United, the 26-year-old is seen as a potential replacement for Harry Maguire. Since Erik ten Hag’s arrival, our captain has fallen down the pecking order and spent most of last season on the bench. As a result, the English national has been tipped with an exit.
The Dutch manager relied on the partnership of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in the previous campaign. At United, the two World Cup winners have formed a formidable duo.
