Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund has expressed his delight and pride at being linked with a move to Manchester United ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The Red Devils see the Denmark international as a realistic target to bolster the attack this summer. As things stand, the 20-year-old is one of the number of players the Old Trafford side have on their radar to bring goals to the team.

Speaking Berlingske (h/t Manchester Evening News), Hojlund was flattered to be associated with a club of United’s stature. The youngster aspires to make it to the top in football.

“It’s a huge club, so I must have done something right if it says they want me. My goal is to reach the top shelf, and you can say that Manchester United is. So it will be huge.”

Atalanta signed the Danish national just last summer from Sturm Graz. However, interest in the striker’s signature has grown exponentially. A potential move away from La Dea in the coming months looks increasingly likely.

The 20-year-old has become a key member of Gian Piero Gasperini’s team in a short span of time. In the previous campaign, he made 34 appearances in all competitions, finding the back of the net 10 times and providing four assists.

Hojlund also broke onto the scene for his national side in the previous international break. The 20-year-old scored a hattrick against Finland and a brace versus Kazakhstan in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

United’s attack lacks depth up front. Anthony Martial was on the sidelines for most of the previous campaign. As a result, the Red Devils had to sign Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley in January as cover.

Unfortunately, the Holland international left a lot to be desired in the final third of the pitch. As for the former AS Monaco star, he picked up multiple fitness issues over the course of the 2022/23 season, also missing the FA Cup final.

Therefore, we evidently need to add more quality in the squad for the number nine position. Hojlund is an unfinished product for now. Thus, it remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford side will pursue the Danish national this summer.
