Manchester United hope Dean Henderson converts his loan move into a permanent one at Nottingham Forest
As per Sun (h/t Nottingham Post), Manchester United are hoping that Nottingham Forest sign Dean Henderson on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window.
Henderson joined Steve Cooper’s side on loan for the 2022/23 season last summer. He started the campaign well before an injury set his progress back.
The Englishman does aim to return to action when the pre-season kickstarts. A few days ago, Daily Mail revealed that Forest are aiming to sign him permanently after they survived relegation.
United, on the other hand, do not want to recall the 26-year-old this summer. They would want to solve the goalkeeping issue by signing someone else rather than getting Henderson back.
They are leading the race to sign Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa to potentially replace David de Gea, who had another horror display, this time in the FA Cup Final against Manchester City.
In response to the links with United, Cost, although did not close the door to a potential transfer, hopes to continue playing for his favourite club – which is Porto.
Coming back to Henderson, as improved a shot-stopper as he is, playing out from the back is not one of his fortes. So it makes sense why United do not want him ahead of the pre-season, even though he is still 26 years old and has room for improvement.
For a football team to succeed and win trophies, its goalkeeper has to be confident and comfortable with what he is asked to do. De Gea is anything but when asked to play out from the back by Erik ten Hag.
