Bruno Fernandes delighted for Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho after Wolves display
Manchester United playmaker and Portugal international Bruno Fernandes is delighted for Alejandro Garnacho after the Red Devils’ win over Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves).
The Argentine national returned to action after being on the sidelines for the last few weeks against the Molineux Stadium side on (Saturday) 13 May. At the 80-minute mark, the youngster came off the bench and replaced Jadon Sancho.
Garnacho got on the scoresheet in stoppage time to secure a 2-0 victory at Old Trafford. Speaking after the match to BBC Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Fernandes, 28, expects big things from the 18-year-old.
“To play for Manchester United you have to be special. This club is massive and we know the past. He [Garnacho] is another one coming through. We are really happy for him.”
United went into the game without Marcus Rashford, who has been our most lethal threat up front this season. Therefore, we needed our other attackers to step up.
Anthony Martial did exactly that. The Red Devils were on top of Wolves for most of the proceedings. Antony looked threatening at the start. Then at around the half-hour mark, the Brazilian set up the former AS Monaco star to give the Old Trafford side the lead.
Subsequently, in the second half, United continued to control the momentum of the fixture. Julen Lopetegui’s team hardly troubled the Red Devils’ backline throughout the match.
But we still only had a slender lead. The Manchester-based club had multiple attempts after the break. Unfortunately, the West London-based club’s shot-stopper Daniel Bentley pulled off some impressive saves to deny us.
Towards the end of the fixture, Wolves left spaces at the back in search of an equaliser. Thankfully, we were able to take advantage of a counter and subsequently, Garnacho calmed the nerves inside the stadium.
