Amad Diallo dreams of getting a chance at Manchester United next season
Amad Diallo, who is currently on loan at Sunderland, dreams of getting a chance to play for Manchester United next season.
Amad has had an exceptional on loan at Sunderland, where he has scored 14 goals and assisted four in 42 appearances in all competitions, including a stunner in the first leg of the playoff tie against Luton Town on Saturday.
He could take the Northeast club to the Premier League and come back to Old Trafford. Doing that would enhance his confidence to a whole new level if it hasn’t reached there by now.
Here’s what the 20-year-old said when asked about his future (h/t Sky Sports, via Manchester Evening News):
“My dream was to play for United. When I signed I was happy. Everyone in my family was happy. I hope maybe next season I get my chance.
“I have a lot of thoughts in my head but my ambition now is to come back to Manchester United and maybe to get my chance.
“I know they [Sunderland fans] love me – that is good for me. Maybe, I don’t know, maybe next season I will come back here.”
The quotes suggest that while the Ivorian dreams of playing for Manchester United next season, he has not shut the door on returning to the Stadium of Light.
If Sunderland get promoted to the Premier League, it might not be a bad idea from Erik ten Hag and co. to send the 20-year-old on another loan spell there. If that happens, he can be properly seen by the Dutchman how he does against the defenders of the English top flight.
Amad is a left-footed right winger, a position where Antony is playing for United right now. Although the latter hasn’t had the greatest of first seasons at Old Trafford, he has shown signs of settling down in the last few weeks.
The future of the former will largely depend on what ten Hag has planned for him. As mentioned above, the play might be to see him play for a Premier League club first before installing him into the squad here.
