Manchester United, along with Premier League rivals Manchester City, are interested in Everton star Amadou Onana, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

As things stand, the Toffees are in the relegation zone. If the Goodison Park side are unable to survive the drop, they could be forced to sell some of their players, with the midfielder being one of them.

Pep Guardiola’s team, as well as the Red Devils, are looking to acquire the Belgium international’s services. If Everton do go down to the Championship, they are expected to demand around €25 million to part ways with the 21-year-old.

Onana signed for the Merseyside outfit in the summer of 2022 from LOSC Lille. Since then, he has been one of their best players and has caught a lot of people’s attention.

The Belgian has played as a number six or the box-to-box position and has excelled in both roles. He has proven to be a decent enforcer in the middle of the park. The 21-year-old is also encouraging when going forward with the ball at his feet.

He has made 31 appearances in all competitions for the Goodison Park side, scoring one goal and providing one assist. However, it remains to be seen whether Sean Dyche will be able to keep the Toffees up.

United bolstered the midfield ranks last summer with the addition of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the team. The two have formed a brilliant partnership in the engine room, playing in the double pivot.

However, in their absence, the Red Devils’ bench strength has left a lot to be desired. Fred and Scott McTominay are not reliable. Marcel Sabitzer has impressed many but will return to Bayern Munich on loan at the end of the campaign.

Onana has thrived in the Premier League and has showcased his versatility at Everton. City have an abundance of talent in the middle of the park with the likes of Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan and Kalvin Phillips. Therefore, will they compete with United for Onana? Only time will tell.
