Manchester United lead Chelsea in race for PSG full-back Achraf Hakimi
Manchester United are leading Premier League rivals Chelsea in the race for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star Achraf Hakimi, according to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Parisians are open to parting ways with the Morocco international in the upcoming transfer window. To that end, the Parc de Princes side have set a price tag of £60 million on the full-back’s head.
However, the Blues are struggling to come up with a way to put together a financial package for the Ligue 1 giants. On the other hand, the Red Devils are ready to sanction such a deal for Hakimi.
Also, the 24-year-old wants to play in the Champions League. As things stand, the Old Trafford side are in the top four, while the Stamford Bridge side are languishing in the bottom half of the league table.
Although, Chelsea have one of the best right-backs at their disposal in Reece James. The England international has been one of the Blues’ best players over the last few months.
Therefore, it does not make sense for them to pursue another quality player for the right-hand side of their defence. Cesar Azpilicueta is also in the Stamford Bridge side’s ranks.
As for United, Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are the two right-backs at Erik ten Hag’s disposal. The Portugal international was the gaffer’s preferred option in the first half of the campaign.
However, in recent months, the former Crystal Palace star has found himself back in the Dutch manager’s plans. But the two have shown inconsistency over the course of the season.
