Manchester United decide to trigger Victor Lindelof contract extension
Manchester United have decided to trigger the one-year extension in the contract of Victor Lindelof to keep him until June 2025, according to the Daily Star.
The Sweden international is set to enter the final 12 months of his existing deal at the end of the season. But the Red Devils want to secure the centre-back’s future at the club.
It looks like the Old Trafford side want to keep him for another year at least. Erik ten Hag admires the 28-year-old’s qualities. The defender’s attitude is also a plus point.
United signed Lindelof in the summer of 2017 from Benfica for £32 million. The Red Devils will only consider selling him if they receive an offer close to that figure.
The Swedish national was an influential player for the Old Trafford side in past seasons. His partnership with Harry Maguire was the core of our team. But our skipper has not been at his best for some time now.
In the previous campaign, with the arrival of Raphael Varane, the 28-year-old still played an important role for us. The former Real Madrid star struggled with a lot of injuries.
However, with the signing of Lisandro Martinez from Ajax, both Lindelof and Maguire have become bit-part players. The World Cup-winning Argentine, along with Varane, has been counted on by Erik ten Hag the most.
But with the injury crisis in our backline, the Swedish national has stepped up. He has proven to be a decent backup in the squad in the absence of our first-choice defensive stars.

Therefore, it would be wise to keep a hold of Lindelof for longer. Even if he does not want to stay, an extension will protect the defender’s value ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
