Erik ten Hag admits new striker a priority for Manchester United next summer
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has admitted that signing a new striker in the upcoming transfer window will be a priority for the club.
The Red Devils are interested in Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane. However, if the Old Trafford side are unable to acquire the England international’s services, Napoli forward Victor Osimhen is also on their radar.
Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag believes it is obvious that United need a number nine. The Dutch manager is looking for his front line to be bolstered next summer.
“Yeah, I think everyone knows, it’s not a secret. Over the whole season, we had a shortage of No. 9s.
“With less players we have to cover many games, so definitely we need the frontline players who strengthen the squad.”
At the start of the season, Ten Hag had Anthony Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo at his disposal for the centre-forward position. However, the French national has been unavailable for most of the season due to injuries.
On the other hand, Ronaldo parted ways with the club midway through the season after losing his place in the team. As a result, Marcus Rashford has played up top on several occasions under the Dutch manager.
Since the former Ajax head coach’s arrival, the England international has been our talisman. Thankfully, the 25-year-old has found his feet once again and has shouldered the burden of our attack.
Unfortunately, the other attackers in the team have not contributed as much. The likes of Antony and Jadon Sancho have been inconsistent. Although, Alejandro Garnacho has broken onto the scene in fine fashion.
Apart from Martial, whose fitness issues have made him unreliable, United have Wout Weghorst in their ranks. The Holland international joined the Red Devils on loan in January to add cover in the number nine position.

Therefore, considering the lack of natural strikers in our squad, a quality attacker is evidently required. However, it remains to be seen who the Old Trafford side will turn to in the upcoming transfer window.
