Harry Maguire ‘fearful’ of being forced out of Manchester United next summer
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is ‘fearful’ that he will be forced to leave the Red Devils in the upcoming transfer window, according to the Daily Mail (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The centre-back has lost his place at the Old Trafford side. However, the 30-year-old is worried about having to leave the Manchester-based club to remain a regular in the England national team.
Maguire has been a bit-part player under Erik ten Hag at Man United. He has fallen down the pecking order and could be sold by the Red Devils next summer.
The English national’s current contract at the Old Trafford side is set to run until June 2025. But the likes of Premier League rivals West Ham United and Italian giants Inter Miland and AS Roma have the defender on their radar.
While several teams are looking to acquire the 30-year-old’s services, his wages are a sticking point. If the centre-back is sold, the Red Devils could look to reinforce the backline in the coming months.
Despite Maguire losing his place in the Red Devils’ starting lineup, Gareth Southgate has kept faith in him. The defender was key for the Three Lions in the 2022 World Cup and put in some decent performances.
However, it remains to be seen how long the English gaffer will continue to pick the 30-year-old. Without regular game time at Man United, it is evidently difficult to justify his inclusion in future squads.
Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have been Ten Hag’s preferred partnership in the defence at the Old Trafford side. The Red Devils have been solid at the back for most of the season.

Therefore, it looks like a difficult task for Maguire to get his place back in the team. Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw have done well as a centre-back duo in recent weeks as well. Thus, we will have enough quality at the back even if the English national decides to leave.
