Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen on Manchester United radar
Manchester United have set their sights on Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen ahead of the upcoming transfer window, according to Spanish outlet El Nacional.
The Red Devils are ‘willing’ to sit down and negotiate with the Camp Nou side’s president Joan Laporta for the Denmark international. While the Blaugrana do not want to sell the defender, their economic situation is fragile at the moment.
Apart from the Old Trafford side, other top teams around Europe also have their eyes on the 27-year-old. The La Liga outfit are hoping to retain the centre-back, but they are set to receive offers for him and will have to assess them.
Christensen signed for Barcelona as a free agent last summer after leaving Chelsea. The Danish national made his way through the youth ranks at the Stamford Bridge side.
After spending time out on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, the defender returned to the Blues and established himself in the starting lineup. In the 2020/21 campaign, the 27-year-old featured in the Champions League finals as the West London club beat Manchester City.
At Barcelona, Christensen has caught a lot of people’s attention. The Danish national has been one of the Balugrana’s best performers this season under Xavi as they look set to win La Liga.
United’s backline has relied on Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane this season. The Argentine and French duo has been Erik ten Hag’s preferred partnership at the Old Trafford side.
But the Red Devils also have Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof in their ranks. Although, it would not come as a surprise if either of them decided to leave next summer due to a lack of game time.

Apart from Christensen, Barcelona have two quality centre-backs in Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde at their disposal. If Maguire or Lindelof part ways with United in the coming months, the Denmark international is a decent option to have on our radar to bolster the defence.
