Real Madrid contract offer ‘unacceptable’ for Marco Asensio amidst Manchester United interest
Marco Asensio finds the latest contract being offered to him by Real Madrid ‘unacceptable’ amidst interest from Manchester United, according to Spanish outlet El Nacional.
The 27-year-old’s existing deal with Los Blancos is set to expire at the end of the season. However, the forward feels the La Liga outfit are pushing him out.
Asensio wants to stay at Madrid and is willing to accept the same wages he is currently on. However, Los Blancos president Florentino Perez wants Asesnio to take a pay cut, which the Spain international doe not intend to do.
The Red Devils are one of the teams who have the 27-year-old on their radar. However, Premier League rivals Liverpool and Chelsea, as well as Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, are being linked with the forward.
Asensio has failed to live up to the early expectations in Madrid. Initially, the Spaniard shone at the Santiago Bernabeu outfit and looked set to become a world-class superstar.
However, injuries have hampered the winger’s development over the years. Now, the 26-year-old is mostly a backup player for Los Blancos. Carlo Ancelotti has preferred other options in the starting lineup ahead of the former Mallorca star.
United signed Antony in the summer of 2022 from Ajax. The youngster has been Erik ten Hag’s first choice on the right wing. However, the 23-year-old has been inconsistent in his first few months in Manchester.
The gaffer has also been unable to rely on Jadon Sancho to play on the right-hand side of the attack. As a result, there does not seem to be adequate competition for the Brazil international in the team.
